What makes a thesis strong?

It takes a clear position. A reader should be able to disagree with it. "Uniforms have pros and cons" is a topic, not a thesis.
It's specific. Name the exact claim, not a vague area. Swap "is important" for what, why, and to whom.
It previews your reasons. The best theses hint at the body paragraphs to come, so your essay has a built-in road map.
It fits in one sentence. If you need two sentences, tighten the claim or combine reasons.
