A tutor ties each rule to a plain-English cue ("and → times, or → plus") and drills it on real problems until the choice is automatic.
The second is replacement. "Draw two cards" plays out very differently depending on whether the first card goes back. Students often treat both draws as if the deck never changed. Drawing the tree diagram — like the one above — makes the shift in the odds impossible to miss, which is why it is one of the first tools a tutor reaches for. These same habits carry straight into Algebra 2 and beyond.
