Meet Scott B.

Scott is a math and physics tutor who has worked with students in Irvine, California, Washington, DC, and remotely since October 2023. He delivers personalized instruction to high school students in AP Physics and AP Calculus, as well as elementary-school math, and develops lessons to align with AP and classroom expectations.

Through Georgetown Outdoor Education at Georgetown University, Scott has served as a Backpacking Guide and New Guide Instructor since February 2023. He plans and leads hiking and backpacking trips for Georgetown students in Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland. He has directed training for sixteen new guides, teaching weekly two-hour classes on risk management, navigation, and backcountry skills, and has logged over 500 miles in the backcountry, including Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the contiguous United States.

In the summer of 2024, Scott founded and directed Turtle Rock Math Camp in Irvine, CA, a five-week bootcamp for 24 motivated students focused on tackling complex mathematical problems.

From September 2023 to May 2024, Scott served as a Teaching Apprentice in the Education and Literary Departments at Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, DC. He directed scenes and acting games for a weekend youth Shakespeare program, working with two classes of 16 students ages 6 to 18, and provided detailed feedback on the company's productions during monthly dramaturgy classes with the resident dramaturg.

In the summer of 2023, Scott volunteered as a Photography Instructor at Regents Point Senior Living Center in Irvine, CA, where he organized, advertised, and led a free photography class for seniors. He developed lectures covering basic exposure, lighting, composition, and editing, culminating in a final showcase of the seniors' work, along with one-on-one shooting sessions tailored to each participant's needs.

Scott also volunteered as a math tutor through the Georgetown Center for Social Justice, providing free one-on-one after-school tutoring to students at Congress Heights Public Charter School as part of the Math and Science Hands-On Enrichment Program.
