How is a weighted GPA calculated?

Each letter grade is worth points (A=4.0, B=3.0, and so on). Honors classes usually add 0.5 and AP/IB classes add 1.0. We multiply by each course’s credits, add it up, and divide by total credits — and show your unweighted GPA too.

Why is my weighted GPA above 4.0?

Because AP and honors courses add bonus points, a weighted GPA can go above 4.0 — that’s normal and rewards taking harder classes.

Which GPA do colleges use?

It varies — many recalculate on their own scale. Reporting both is common, and strong grades in rigorous courses help either way.
