Meet Anthony S.

Anthony has developed his teaching and mentoring skills through a range of academic and community-based programs, where he's worked closely with students from underserved backgrounds.

Through Fitnut, Anthony worked with K–12 students in Los Angeles schools, leading lessons that combined physical activity with health and wellness education. He was responsible for keeping students engaged in a structured environment while also adapting activities to different age groups and learning styles. This experience strengthened his ability to communicate clearly, manage groups, and create a positive, supportive learning environment.

As part of MESH (Medical Education for Student Health), Anthony taught health-related topics to elementary school students in an interactive and accessible way. This required breaking down complex medical concepts into simple, engaging lessons that young students could understand. He focused on making sessions hands-on and culturally relevant, ensuring students not only learned the material but felt empowered to apply it in their daily lives.

In his role with his karate dojo, Te-Kenjutsu-Kan Karate-Do, Anthony has spent several years teaching students of all ages, particularly youth from underserved communities in Santa Ana. As both an instructor and a Board member, he leads classes that emphasize discipline, respect, and personal growth, while also prioritizing student safety. Teaching karate has required him to give clear, step-by-step instruction, provide individualized feedback, and mentor students as they build confidence both physically and mentally.

Additionally, through BruinCorps, Anthony worked as an academic tutor supporting K–12 students in subjects such as math and science. In this role, he provided one-on-one and small group tutoring, helping students strengthen foundational skills, improve study habits, and gain confidence in the classroom. He also collaborated with teachers and staff to ensure that his tutoring aligned with students' academic needs.

Across all of these experiences, Anthony has learned how to adapt his teaching style to different age groups, simplify complex concepts, and build meaningful connections with students. His background as a first-generation student allows him to relate to many of the challenges his students face, and he strives to create a learning environment that is both supportive and empowering.
