Meet James M.

James is passionate about sharing the beauty of math with as many people as he can. He sees math as more than a tool, and math problems as puzzles waiting to be solved. He understands that the subject can seem opaque, but he believes everyone is capable of full math comprehension.

He is a recent graduate of the University of California, San Diego, where he received both a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He has gained high-level proficiency in math and science skills, and is eager to pass that knowledge on.

His first teaching experience was as a counselor at National Youth Leadership Training. After taking the course himself, he gained the tools to come back and pass those essential skills on to others. He worked there as a Patrol Guide for three years, honing his ability to teach skills and foster confidence.

In high school, he volunteered to teach math at an after-school program for underserved kids in San Rafael. He did this until he went off to college, where he would informally tutor his classmates; his best studying came from teaching his peers how to do complicated math. In addition, he tutored at Mathnasium, working mostly with kids in elementary through middle school. Every Elite tutor is personally interviewed, reference-checked, and background-checked before working with a student.
