Meet Masae W.

With a Ph.D. in Bioengineering and nearly a decade of experience in both academic and professional research settings, Masae has always found great joy in helping students navigate the complexities of STEM subjects. Her teaching philosophy is centered on patience, clarity, and creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions.

Her experience spans all age groups and academic levels:

- Higher Education & Data Science: Masae currently serves as a Peer Tutor at Calbright College, where she provides 1-to-1 virtual support for students in Data Analysis. She focuses on making technical problem-solving and statistical concepts approachable through interactive resources and personalized guidance.
- University Mentorship: During her time at UCLA, Masae served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for several years. She led discussion sections for over 50 students, managed intensive laboratory sessions, and mentored senior capstone teams through the full design cycle of biomedical devices. These roles taught her how to break down high-level engineering principles into manageable, logical steps for her students.
- Foundation & K-12: Masae has a strong foundation in community-based tutoring, having worked as a Math Lab Tutor at Cypress College, covering all levels of mathematics. Additionally, she spent nearly two years as a mentor for the BEAM program at UCLA, designing hands-on STEM activities for K-12 students to spark their curiosity in science and engineering.

Beyond the technical side of "getting the right answer," Masae is passionate about teaching the "mindset" of a scientist/engineer, helping students develop the study skills, time management, physically and mentally healthy habits, and confidence they need to succeed independently. She looks forward to supporting her students not just as a tutor, but as a mentor who is genuinely invested in their academic growth and well-being.
