Meet Kelly F.

Kelly began a teaching career as a student teacher at Cabrillo Middle School in Santa Clara. Kelly then taught 7th grade language arts/remedial reading and writing at Ben Franklin Intermediate School in Daly City for one year. After that, Kelly taught sixth grade language arts, 7th grade remedial writing, 7th grade advanced reading, and journalism at Isaac Newton Graham Middle School in Mountain View for three years. Kelly also founded and directed the Environmental Club at Graham Middle School while teaching there.

Next, Kelly moved to Oregon and substitute taught for four years in all subjects in grades K-12 in the High Desert Education Service District, which extends from Madras to La Pine. Kelly primarily taught in the high schools in the Bend and Redmond areas during those years as a substitute teacher in Oregon, and was employed as a regular sub in many teachers' classrooms. Kelly also was a district tutor for the Bend La Pine School District Special Programs department for four years, assisting district qualified students with special needs with homework, keeping up with classwork, and writing essays in grades K-12 in all subject areas, primarily in the city of Bend. Bend is a very active and athletic town, and Kelly helped several student athletes who were navigating concussions in keeping up with school work during their recovery, as well as other students with IEPs concerning behavior and learning disabilities. During this time as a district tutor, Kelly came to realize how much Kelly loves helping students one-on-one and forming cooperative, collaborative relationships with their parents and the educational coordinators and teachers within the district. It made Kelly feel like a connected and integral part of the community.

Once Kelly moved back to California in 2019, Kelly wanted to continue teaching students one-on-one, and once the COVID-19 pandemic struck, the need for remote tutoring and teaching, as well as homeschool teaching, increased. Kelly gradually started working independently as a private tutor and homeschool teacher, gaining clients over the years. This is what Kelly has been doing for five years. As an independent tutor, Kelly teaches both remotely and in-person, either at students' homes or in a public location, depending on the needs of the students.

During these five years working independently, Kelly has done a great deal of remote coaching in writing for high school students in standard, honors, and AP English classes, homeschool taught a middle school student for three years in English and history (in-person), taught a Spanish-speaking adult conversational English along with reading, writing, and grammar in English, and has tutored several elementary school students in math, reading, and basic phonics. Kelly also worked as a writing coach for a tutoring company in Cupertino for one year, from 2019 to 2020, helping students with college admissions essays.

Most recently, Kelly has worked as a substitute instructional assistant and general sub for the Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District alongside independent tutoring work. Kelly teaches and assists primarily in special education classrooms and the adult transition program in the Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District, having fulfilled one long-term substitute position in the adult transition program during the 2024-2025 school year and currently fulfilling a second long-term substitute Every Elite tutor is personally interviewed, reference-checked, and background-checked before working with a student.
